Packaging sample types: what does each one verify?

Choose samples by decision rather than by appearance.

Stock samples

Stock samples can help you understand a material direction, general format or approximate fit. Their usefulness depends on how close they are to the intended structure. They do not establish the final artwork or complete specification.

Structural samples

Plain or unprinted structures help check dimensions, assembly, product fit and opening. Use the actual product when possible and document the changes to the dieline.

Printed samples

A printed sample helps inspect layout and certain print decisions. Confirm whether its material and print route represent the planned order before treating it as a color or finishing standard.

Production-representative samples

When risk calls for a sample close to the planned construction, agree what it represents and what remains to be tested. Record filling, sealing, contact or transit checks separately instead of assuming every sample proves them.
