Roll label unwind direction: what should you confirm?

Prevent a correctly printed label from arriving on an unusable roll.

Start with the applicator

Obtain the labelling-machine specification or the hand-application workflow. The label face, leading edge and direction it leaves the roll must match the equipment and container orientation.

Describe the roll

Specify label width and pitch, gap, liner, core and outer diameter. Supplier numbering conventions can differ, so include a diagram showing exactly how the label feeds rather than relying on a number alone.

Review print orientation

A portrait label can be printed correctly yet arrive rotated relative to the application path. Mark the top of the artwork, the leading edge and the adhesive side on the approval reference.

Run an application trial

Check dispensing, detection, alignment and adhesion on the actual product. Confirm any changes before the complete quantity is produced. Keep the approved unwind drawing with the artwork revision.
